Best Camping Spots South-East Queensland

We are so lucky to living in Brisbane! Within 5 hours drive, there are an abundance of places to stay, some offering seldom exclusion from society, while others are more busy. South-East Queensland offers beaches, islands, bush and camp grounds. Here are 3 of the best.

Fraser Island

Location:  Directions > Fraser Island

Price: Take into account fuel, campsites range from $7pp/night or $28/family/night. You will also need a beach driving permit.

Accessibility: This is 4wd only! Access via Inskip Point and low tyre pressures (especially while towing) is needed. A barge drops you off at the Southern end with campsites starting from about half way up it is an hours drive up the beach.

Amenities: Most camp grounds offer basic showers and toilets. However if beachfront camping, you are on your own. No power, no toilets and no showers. Our camper trailers and hybrids are perfect for this type of stay.

Fraser Island offers fishing, natural beauty and a four wheel drivers dream destination. Campgrounds are surrounded by Dingo proof fencing so are perfect for younger families. With the beach camping areas open to the ocean, these are perfect for larger groups or securing your own stretch of beach.

Exploring Fraser requires at least a week, but a 4 night trip is enough to see the main attractions such as Lake Mackenzie, Eli Creek, Champagne Pools and get some beach fishing inbetween.

Gordons Country

Location: DirectionsGordon Country

Price: $20pp/night

Accessibility: Accessible by car. Has 4wd tracks for the more experiences off-roaders.

Amenities: List campsite features Not all campsites have access to toilets and showers, but if needed can drive up to the main areas to use the bathrooms.

One of the best bush camps for the winter months. Pet friendly, 4wd tracks, negative temperatures in Winter and a running creek to swim in for the warmer months. Perfect to get away from the crowds or have a large group. The 4wd tracks are intermediate to experiences only. Some of these tracks arent for the faint hearted. They are well marked and plenty of places to turn around if it gets beyond your comfort levels.

Plenty of firewood laying around, but 0n busy holiday periods, it is worth bringing some or buying a few bags on the drive in (there are about 20 roadside firewood stalls).

Gordon Country is about 2 hours from Brisbane.

Kinkuna Beach

Location: Directions >Kinkuna Beach- 5 hours from Brisbane

Price: Cheap

Accessibility: SOFT SAND, so 4wd only.

Amenities: As close to nature as you can get. No amenities.

Needing a blissful weekend away and only 20mins from Bundaberg? The Kinkuna section, offers million dollar views, medium diffuculty to get to, and large campsites behind the dunes.

A little less advertised, but one of the best and wonderful spot to explore.

Everyone knows of the spectacular beach camping that is on offer at Fraser Island, Moreton Island and Straddie but what is less known, is this fantastic spot just south of Bundy, or 5 hours north of Brisbane, Kinkuna.

Located in the Burrum Coast National Park, it is stipulated that camping permits are required so make sure you’ve got those locked in, these are easy to obtain through the National Parks website.

The tracks that lead you to the campsites are tight in places, full of vegetation, so you will leave with a few extra custom pin-stripes and there are plenty of low hanging branches. The camp sites are located parallel to the beach and once a permit is acquired, just drive along until you find the perfect spot.
